What is your favorite coffee shop? What makes it so special? Why might the rest of us want to go out of our way to check it out?

Re: Favorite Coffee Shop?
Sat, July 30, 2005 - 4:52 PMI've got three.
-Ritual on Valencia in SF. it's been taken over by the laptop mafia, but it's still got a cool ambiance, excellent coffee (stumptown roasters and talented barista. baristi?) and wisecracking staff.
-Blue Bottle Coffee on Linden in Hayes valley. It's not really a shop, more of a kiosk, but great coffee, freshly roasted. If you go there more than once they're likely to remember your name and drink.
-Julie's coffee and tea in Alameda. This is more of a tea shop but the coffee is also very good, supplied by Taylor Maid and the ambience is great. There's a garden in back and art on the walls. Pretty sweet for a little town like Alameda. -

Re: Favorite Coffee Shop?
Sat, July 30, 2005 - 7:19 PMI try to have one in every city where I spend much time, but currently my very favorites are both in the SE.
Satori Coffee House in Mobile, AL, used to be a used CD store. Now they serve tripple-certified coffee every day, along with some great vegetarian lunches (portabello panini, hippie hummis wrap). The place still has a funky music scene ambience, including a shrine to musicians who have died of natural causes. They are also one of the best venues for accoustic music in town.
My all time favorite is Z'OTZ in New Orleans. Tripple certified coffee, vegan treats, live juices, tinctures, and they are open 24 hours! Plus the whole space is a 4D, interactive work of art. Absolutely one of my favorite places to hang out in New Orleans.
Both offer wireless... Valerie - if I use a laptop does that mean I am in the mafia? Even if I frequently break for human interaction as well? It's just that I would much rather do my work at the coffee shop than sit at home all night.
BTW, I am actually in the NW these days more often than down south, but was largely disappointed by NW coffee shops. I found some good ones, but most seem to close early. I miss the late night/all night coffee shops down south. -

Re: Favorite Coffee Shop?
Sat, December 10, 2005 - 8:15 PMyeah!!! a coffee tribe.
okay so, Flying Goat Coffee- 3 locations
Santa Rosa- railroad square
Healdsburg- 324 & 419 Center St. (419 is the roasting facility as well as a "to go" location.) (324 The original cafe)
This is where my love of coffee began.
Railroad square for the atmosphere, all locations for the deliciousness.
Also as far as far northern california is concerned Muddy Waters Coffee Company, a small cafe provides the coffee for burning man's cafe. Best coffee in the north coast. -

Re: Favorite Coffee Shop?
Sun, November 19, 2006 - 12:31 AMtheres this little place called the Gazebo in Marianna, FL (about 45 NE of Panama City) and they have amazing lattes. And for those near Tallahassee I strongly recommend Black Dog on Lake Ella...the BEST soy mocha I have ever had, plus the people are really personable and just the environment is great. It's really homey and sometimes there's live bands playing next door so its like you get a free show.
